Just had lunch at Bon A Pit! We had beef brisket. It was great as usual. I had my daughter's bridal shower here last month and it was wonderful! They gave everyone two choices for entrees, I picked BBQ chicken and tilapia, along with soup, and salad. It was a great venue! All the guests said what a great time they had. The waiter even helped us carry everything to the car!

I love the chicken kabobs. Bbq brisket with Mac & cheese, vegetable of the day and corn bread is fantastic. Great service.

I've been here twice. I will say that the staff isn't that knowledgeable about gluten however I could pretty much navigate the menu myself. It was good however I still claim Smokey Mo's in Texas is better. We went the 2nd time for a coming home party for the bf. I surprised him with all of his friends there. They were great and very accommodating for a large group.

Second time coming to Bon. The food was great the first time. I've had alot of bad BBQ but this was great. Second time was Sunday @ 2:30 P. I was ready for a baked potatoe, but they weren't ready yet so they suggested mashed potatoes (homemade they claimed), which I agreed upon. Then the server came back and said they had no mashed potatoes either. Huh? You are suggesting something as an alternative that you don't even have and you've been open since 11am? Sorry to say we didn't stay. They need to have what they say on the menu. Really disappointed cause I really like their BBQ the first time!?

Decent place for a cheaper, casual dining experience. Food tasted well for the price paid. Accommodates groups and kids if needed.

Rib tips for me with cole slaw and spicy rice. reasonably priced and very tasty. No extra barbeque sauce necessary though they plunk a big bottle on the table. My wife had the pork tenderloin with cole slaw and mac and cheese. The pork was super tender and done to perfection. The mac and cheese tasted like it was made from scratch. All was excellent except the cole slaw. It was ok but not up to par with the rest of the meal. Though the texture was perfect, It seemed under seasoned and a little bland. Service was great as the server was very attentive.

I have been here a few times and have tried a wide variety of their foods. I've had their BBQ and some stuff that isn't BBQ. I have to say, this is not the place to go to if you are trying to diet. Their salads have limp lettuce which is kind of gross and the dressing is really watered down. However, this is not a healthy food restaurant so it is difficult to deduct points for that. This is just a heads up, if you want to eat something light, this isn't the place to go. The first time I went here, I was trying to eat a little light and got the avocado chicken pretzel sandwich. The sandwich itself was very bland. The ingredients were fresh and the chicken was juicy, but the seasoning was a little off which made it lack a little flavor. Their BBQ, however, is very good. I have gotten the 1/2 BBQ chicken and hickory smoked beef brisket and both have been awesome. Their beef brisket is tender and juicy which heightens the flavor. I love their BBQ sauce. It isn't spicy, which I really appreciate, while being a little on the sweet side. This doesn't sacrifice any flavor, so you get a real punch of all the things delicious about a good BBQ sauce. Their chicken is fall of the bone and soo juicy. This heightens the flavor of the chicken adding a whole other dimension. I haven't had their dessert, but when I went with some old co workers one of the ladies got a sorbet with raspberry sauce and it looked amazing. She raved about how good it was, so that is definitely something to try. The service and ambiance have always been on point. I like how the have an open area where you don't sit outside, but you still get the breeze of the outdoors. We sat right by the open window and it was great! I will certainly be back FOR THEIR BBQ. Not much else on the menu is really amazing, but if you are in the mood for good BBQ this is the place to go!

I wanted to like this place! I love BBQ food! And I think we had a coupon for dine-in so what could go wrong? Well the food just wasn't all that great. The service was okay. The prices were steep (even with a coupon) and we just weren't satisfied at the end. I wouldn't say avoid this place at all costs. In the end, the Barbecue was just okay, not super juicy or flavorful. There are better places for your BBQ fix!

Hands down, the best smoked brisket sandwich I've had in a long time! Served on a pretzel bun (upon request) with seasoned fries and cole slaw. Topped it off with a delicious $5 bloody mary and a piece of turtle cheesecake - to die for! Couldn't have had a more leisurely, enjoyable lunch with two of my best buds! Just wish it was closer to where I live...

First time and only thing we didn't care for was the Blue Cheese dressing that came with the wings. We had pulled pork, brisket and wings... All were great! Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Only reason we took a star off was portions were a little small for prices but not so high to stop us from returning. LOVE the BBQ sauce!!!

We love this place! Food is fantastic. Both ribs are good, St Louis or baby back both superb. Can't go wrong with anything here. So happy to have found this place :)))

Decided to try something different rather than a chain for lunch. The service was great, Chris was very attentive and brought everything we needed. Although we sat on the dining room side, there was a large bar area that looked really nice for a drink after work. They had a lot of specials but we both got the pulled pork. I had the platter allowing me to choose two sides. The pulled pork was great, served on one piece of bread. I had Mac and cheese as well as mashed potatoes for my sides. Both were very good. The corn on the cob was average. My gf got the pulled pork as well but the sandwich. It was lacking meat though. She got the cole slaw and it wasn't the best. Luckily their BBQ sauce made up for most of that. Also make sure to get the corn muffins, they are delicious!

We visited just as they opened up on Saturday @ 11am. We wanted to try the RIB TIPS & Chicken Wings. The wings were great. We ordered them plain (w/sauce on the side) & also dipped in sauce (both were great). The Rib Tips were very tender & the sauce was spectacular (although they were brought to our table barely luke warm). The flavor was good enough to go back again though!

Ribs were delicious and tender. Brisket was tender and flavorful. Nice ambiance minus the loud bar/tvs. Nice decor. Friendly waitress and greeted w a smile. Sauces are gluten free...win win for me.

No question: The BEST Southern/BBQ food in the area! Everyone needs to know this spot. This resturant NEVER disappoints! I have been a loyal customer for years. Consistency is the key here. The food is fresh, fast, delicious, has generous portions, amazingly priced and flavorful. The menu has so many outstanding selections it's hard to decide what to choose but whatever you decide-on... you will fully enjoy it. The service is attentive, friendly and well-paced. The decor is perfect, comfy and tasteful. When you have a taste for Southern/BBQ food, and don't want to take a road trip, visit this fantastic spot!

Went today for lunch after passing by every time I head home from work. The pork was good. The mac and cheese for my son looked like It had already been eaten. The flavor was bad. The corn they give you with the ribs was old and had no flavor. Would not give it another chance. Famous Dave's has better tasting ribs, corn and mac and cheese than this. The service was fine, nothing out of the ordinary

Just one star... Shame I can't leave fewer. I paid the place a visit early-evening on 7/18 with my brother. The food is... The food's OK, two and a half to three stars-worthy. But what REALLY turned me off was the ignorant management. There was a family sitting a few tables away from us with a little girl. Occasionally, as babies do, we'd hear a little fussing... But then, ya know, for anyone who isn't a stiff or a douchebag, it wouldn't phase you; it wasn't enough to upset me, for sure. But leave it to some guy to come over and start razzing the family about being loud, and "their screaming baby." Hardly screaming, but I heard a LOT of giggling laughter. As if it weren't bad enough, the "manager", whose name I later learned was 'Steve', proceeded to scold the family for being so loud, telling them to leave, and something about it not being a family restaurant. Laughable. So, that said, I would ENCOURAGE you to consider this: If you have a family or large party, just don't patronize the place- seems they're too good for you, and 'oh by the way', there are VASTLY better restaurants in the area. This place is trying their hand at BBQ... Hello, you have CHUCKS in Bridgeview. Go to Chucks, thank me later. Natural selection will weed a joint like this out expeditiously, as history has shown. Save your money, go somewhere else!

The wife and I stopped in for a couple salads for lunch on a Sunday. Great menu and reasonable prices. The salads were good- Greek salad with grilled chicken and a salad with smoked chicken. Service was great. Homemade rice pudding for dessert was outstanding. Definitely a come back place for lunch or dinner.

Decent BBQ Bar/Restaurant on the Southside. Clean, appealing bar/dining room/patio areas, plenty of seating for the busiest crowds. I ordered the 1/2 BBQ Chicken with sides of cole slaw and vegetables. Ticket times were reasonable, and everything came out hot. Considering the sides, cornbread, and entrée, it's was definitely practically priced. The house BBQ sauce was respectable, mild with a slight tang. Cole slaw was great, and the (buttered) steamed vegetables were seasoned well, and went down quick. The corn bread kind of sucked, dry and bland...strikingly similar to our servers. They did NOT seem happy to be working; short, quick, and generally inhospitable. All in all, the place was decent, and overcame some shortfalls. Good food, good BBQ, a bar to catch some games on, and a formidable patio area for those seeking fresh air. Reminds me of Chuck's in Darien with a lesser drink/beer menu. Not my first pick, but certainly far from the bottom.

Loved the food, and you sure get a lot of it, even the sandwich platters are huge! My most recent time here I ordered a smoked sausage sandwich platter and I had leftovers for the next day. I am always looking for a good bbq place and Bon a Pit is excellent. Their menu is very diverse and has some delicious non-bbq options on it too.

My friends husband told me I need to try this place out. It's always been in the back of my mind and I finally made it out there this past weekend. I still really want to try the ribs. I will update my review once I do. I just happened to be in the mood for chicken this evening. I ordered the 1/2 BBQ chicken dinner that came with corn bread muffin and corn on the cob in addition to two sides of my choice. I went with mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The chicken was excellent. The BBQ sauce was great too. I liked the mashed potatoes but the cole slaw was better. I loved the corn bread muffin. It didn't even need butter. I never eat corn on the cob out (hate getting it in my teeth) so I can't comment on that. I believe this was around $13. I thought the value was excellent. We sat in the bar and everything was very clean and updated. I liked the overall feel of the place. The outdoor patio looked really nice! The drink menu is huge (I didn't drink this night) and the server was on top of things. I'm looking forward to going back.

Good food, loved the place until they actually charged us for "to go" containers when we ordered from there. Can believe they would charge $2 for some plastic. What a complete joke. Can't go there anymore on principle.

I had a bridal shower thrown here a few weeks ago. The staff was very friendly and made sure we had everything that we needed. The room available for large parties is very spacious and there is enough windows to let some natural light in. We had a preselected menu of two different dinner salads, pulled pork sandwich, a grilled chicken sandwich or a burger. Chicken and rice soup was a starter and side options were chips or fries. The chicken and rice soup was very tasty. I ate the entire bowl, which I don't usually do. I ordered a cheeseburger cooked medium well and it was OK. There wasn't anything special about it. No flavors that stood out to me specifically. The fries were very bland. They needed some salt and pepper or something. My mother who attended my bridal shower has a gluten intolerance and was not able to eat anything because there are no gluten free options. Other guests ordered different things and I noticed that the serving sizes are massive. Most people needed boxes at the end of the party because they were not able to finish everything. I've heard that the taste of everything in general was pretty mediocre. Because the menu we selected was limited, I would be willing to try this place out again, but I won't go out of my way for it.

I had a pulled pork sandwich (the lighter on) and it just wasn't that good. I got super bad heartburn after and just felt like crap for a couple of hours. The bun should have been toasted more.

I been driving past this place a few times. And decided to stop in. Decided on a couple of cold stellas to start. Barmaid was quite attentive and did a nice job. Thought the belly up area was a bit thin (about 12 seats or so), but the area behind, still part of the bar are, had another 6 tables for larger groups. Didnt want to make the commitment to a full dinner, and had a couple of appetizers. Being the smoked rib snob I am (I smoke my own ribs), had the rib sample and coconut shrimp. Shrimp werent bad. Frozen, but then again who makes coconut shrimp fresh. Ribs were meaty, sauce was just ok (huge sweet baby ray fan here), and cooked nicely. Taste was fine. Worth another trip back to sample the other offerings.

Dined here for the first time. I had the St. Louis ribs and my wife had the baby back ribs. The ribs had a smokey flavor and a great bbq coating. My issue was too much cartilage on the ribs. Also, the meat on the ribs did not come off the bone easy. The bbq baked beans had a dull taste. I was expecting a rich and sassy taste. The cole slaw was not good. The service was ok at best.

While in town visiting my folks we went to Bon a Pit for dinner. My son ordered the New York Strip Steak, my dad ordered the short ribs, my mom & I ordered the chicken salads. My son didn't speak a word during dinner because he was to busy eating. The only thing that was left on my little carnivores' plate was the bone, well worth the $22 for my little steak lover. My dad said the short ribs were tender and had a great taste. The salads were a good size and the 1000 Island dressing tasted like it was house made. Bread rolls was fresh and served warm. The cornbread muffins were to die for, the melt in your mouth begging for more type. The only negative was the smoke flavor on the grilled chicken. It was a bit to strong for my taste on a salad, to over whelming. However, it was good on French bread the next day as a sandwich for lunch. So it was a lose/win situation. Service was quick and friendly. Food is priced fairly for being a Palos restaurant. Will be back!

I came here with my Dad on a Saturday afternoon after we decided to see what the fuss was all about. We decided to sit out on the patio since it was a nice day and it wasn't too crowded. We started with drinks, my dad ordered their Saturday special, a long island ice tea for $5 and I ordered an Abita purple haze grapefruit ale. Now I'm not sure exactly what happened but about 10 min after we got our drinks my Dad noticed a fly in his drink. Our server was very accommodating and quickly replaced it at no charge. We then ordered the BBQ sample platter which came with baby back or st Louis style ribs, 1/2 BBQ chicken, rib tips, BBQ pork loin, BBQ beef brisket, BBQ sausage, 2 pieces of corn on the cob, 2 corn muffins and your choice of four sides. We opted to go with the St. Louis BBQ ribs and for our four sides we chose baked beans, mashed potatoes, cinnamon granny smith apples, and spicy rice. As you can see in the picture I posted, it was a lot of food. Although we told ourselves we had big appetites and we'd finish, we eventually took home a doggy bag. Overall I'd have to say the service was great but the food was mediocre although I did enjoy the BBQ beef brisket. In the end I think the only way I'd come back is if someone else is footing the bill.

So I'm gonna write this as my food coma sets in... This is a must try if you're in the area and lookin' for BBQ. Alright meow, here goes: Shrimp Bisque - delish! Nom Motha-Effin' Nom! BBQ Pork Sandwich was ginormous - hence, food coma. What the hell's a Gluten & why'd you take it outta my beer? I think my ticket was wrong... I ate too much for it to be that cheap! Started out with the Shrimp Bisque - tomato base, very rich and flavorful and loaded up with a healthy amount of shrimp. Honestly, I could have had that and maybe a salad and I would have had a satisfying lunch. But Nooooo... I had to get th BBQ Pork Sandwich too. As my parents would say "Your eyes are bigger than your stomach" - I am so glad they weren't there... "I told you so's" would be running rampant. The BBQ Pork Sandwich was massive, gourmet bun pilled high(and wide) with pulled pork, a light covering of BBQ, surrounded by Fries(or homemade chips), a pickle spear and their homemade slaw. Pulled Pork - Tender, smokey and oh so good. There was just enough BBQ to give it some kick but, the star was definitely the meat. I ended up adding a little more sauce halfway through (right before I couldn't eat another bite). The Fries were great and of course... a generous portion of those as well. Lightly salted, hot and crispy. Forget the ketchup, dunk those suckers in the BBQ sauce! Slaw - GTFO!!! sofa king good. Creamy, just enough sweetness, perfect shred 'n chop on the cabbage too. I don't know what they did to it or what they laced it with but, even after I was stuffed I force fed this stuff to myself. It's like crack or something... I know I "shouldn't" be eating anymore but, what's a little coleslaw gonna hurt? It's only a small little cup, I can stop eating it whenever I want to. They've got a couple "Gluten Free" beers here, I haven't the foggiest of a clue what the hell a "Gluten" is but, apparently some people cant have 'em. Anyway, the 'New Grist Beer' by Lakefront Brewery is Gluten free and really isn't bad at all. It's SUPER light and doesn't have that BEER BEER taste but, according to the bartender it's the best tasting Gluten free beer they stock right now. Personally though, I'm glad that me and Gluten get along. The Argus Holsteiner Lager was much better and probably LOADED with Gluten! I saw a few points about the service in the other reviews; my service was just fine. Mind you, I sit at the bar for lunch since I'm dining alone 90% of the time. The bartender was really friendly, tried to explain "Gluten" to me and was quick with the service. No complaints from this guy. After I threw in the towel and asked for the bill - $15.24 2 Beers, a giant Pulled Pork Sandwich and Shrimp Bisque. Not a bad deal, threw down a Twenty and called it a day.

This place is no Chuck's but it's up there as far as south suburban BBQ places go. I've been here a few times and never been disappointed. On my last visit, I got the Smokehouse Salad, and it was fantastic! It was one of the better restaurant salad I've had in my life. The biggest problem with this place is the service. It's not bad, per se, but all of my servers have been extremely...awkward. I don't really even know how to explain it, but it's always just a weird vibe when a server comes by. The atmosphere is nice, and I really like the patio and indoor/ outdoor seating area. The only downside is people can smoke on the patio and sometimes if wafts into the indoor/ outdoor part. Overall, this place is definitely worth stopping by if you're in the mood for BBQ

OMG!!! This place is amazing. A lot of people must not know about this place because it wasn't that packed. This is the best kept secret. I got the perfecta with St. Louis style ribs and BBQ pulled pork. Delicious!!!!!!

Had an excellent experience here. Ordered nachos as an appetizer and was impressed by the portion size and ingredient freshness. The burger I ordered was cooked just how id asked and the sauce was pretty good as well. The half slab of ribs my companion ordered were hot and well sauced, didn't care much for the sides of potato and coleslaw, but the server made other options available and I was treated quite nicely. I'm not a big fan of barbecue joints but this one is worth a return trip. Nice bar and patio area as well.

My husband and I always drive by this place and see that it's packed. We have also gotten some pretty good reviews from a few different friends about this place. So, we finally came out and tried it. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. I ordered the raspberry bbq salmon which came with rice and mixed vegetables. The salmon was decent and I appreciated being able to get bbq on salmon. The rice was fine. And then the vegetables. Being on Weight Watchers, I was glad that there was nothing on my vegetables. But, since I was already splurging on going out to eat, I would have liked my vegetables seasoned, even if it was with just butter. My husband ordered the brisket. He described the bbq sauce as generic. He also wasn't impressed with the food. With a few different bbq places in our area to choose from, we will not be coming back to Bon A Pit.

Have always enjoyed delicious food and great service here. Prices are quite reasonable for what you get. Salads and soups are very good. My go-to favorite is the chicken fajita wrap. Nice combo of BBQ and veggies without going overboard on meat. Big place- lots of seating including outdoor patio. Have been back many times.

This place was really great!!!! The food was awesome, service was very professional. They were very accommodating to my wheelchair. The staff made sure I was comfortable and had plenty of room. There is tables and booths in the front with an additional room in the back with more tables. Reservations are not necessary but I recommend them since they get really busy. You want to make sure you're comfortable. I will definitely visit again. Highly recommended!!!!!!

Came here for an early dinner with coworkers. We were a group of 14 people. Originally the organizer who planned this dinner asked to be seated out on the patio, but we were seated at tables put together near the back wall.... Which was fine by me since the traffic on harlem avenue was getting busy. Thursday is half price margaritas. A lot of our group decided to try them I had the peach margarita and it was delicious. Everyone said their drinks were good. For appetizers, we got the nachos, brisket sliders, and chicken wings. The nachos were good. The brisket sliders were nice. The chicken wings were awesome, they were really juicy. For dinner there were platters ordered. On these platters came BBQ ribs, sausage, barbecue chicken, and beef brisket.... along with 4 sides... All in all the food was really good. And service was really good as well. The wait staff was very attentive. I drive by this restaurant all the time. This was my first opportunity to try it. My husband & I are not big on BBQ, but I would take my husband to try it. If you don't like barbecue, they do have other items on the menu like salads, burgers, steaks, and seafood.

Baby back ribs were pretty good. You get two sides, corn, and a muffin. For all that food, the price wasn't bad. Our party also tried the nachos and rib tips for appetizers and those weren't bad. Vegetable beef soup was a bit salty and not so good. Casual environment and service was good. Best of all, no wait on a Saturday night.

BBQ? Really? Ribs slathered with so much SAUCE that you could hardly tell what you were eating... To their credit, did see some apparent smoke rings on the ribs...what a shame...could never taste any of the supposedly apple-wood used to cook/smoke the ribs. Homemade Mac & Cheese was like diluted, milky Velveeta; homemade does not necessarily mean it is good!! Service was okay; waitress appeared to be occupied with family she knew...at expense of other diners. Sigh.

Love this place. Went with friends for dinner and everyone really enjoyed their food. I had the baby back ribs and the smoked sausage with cole slaw and fries. The ribs were meaty and tender and the sausage is to die for. My friends had chicken, pulled pork and shrimp. They also have a new spicy BBQ sauce that is really tasty. The service was amazing, Mickey rocks! Give this place a try, we will be back for sure!

Oh boy do they get it right here. I recommend the baby back ribs, brisket and sausage. Also, they have drink specials you could NEVER get in the city! $5 martinis on a Friday night - every martini! And delicious! With friendly bar service!! I have only had a couple of their sides that I really like - cole slaw and baked beans. But my grandma raved about the mac and cheese. Now, if my gramma, who deserves the title of mac n cheese queen, liked it, then it must be slammin! And their cornbread is lemony. That's different to me. Not bad, not good, just different. Not too sure how I feel about it. I prefer their Texas toast. But hey, no one is perfect. They come pretty darn close though!! The service is very friendly. And patient! Now, I'm not encouraging people to go in there and be "bad" diners. You know the ones, parties of 20, kids running around, taking too long to order, taking too long to leave, etc. But, let's just say that if you did, they would know how to handle it. I've seen them do it. They did it to me and mine. This tells me they appreciate and are used to big groups. In short, I really cannot think of any BBQ restaurants who I like better this side of the Mason-Dixon!

We ate here last night. Everything was delicious!! We each had a bowl of cream of chicken and rice...omg it is amazing!! And when I say bowl, I mean a bowl!! I wasn't expecting that, not for 99 cents anyway! And then our pulled pork sandwiches came. They are huge!! And so yummy!! The interior of this place is lovely. Our server's name was Chris. He was great. :) We'll be back for more. I can't wait to try their ribs next time! Or maybe the wings? There are a lot of choices!! And it's affordable. The two of us ate here for just over $20 +tip. It's great!

My office is located in Palos Heights and I have eaten at Bon a Pit at least 1/2 dozen times. I think that the food is far above average and I have recommended them dozens of times. In addition to the food, the service has always been fast and friendly. Last but not least the ambiance is very nice. Try it you'll like it!

Yuck. The ribs barely had any meat on them. Their nachos were awful. The laminated tacky menu was sticky and filthy. There are so, so, so many great places for BBQ in Chicago and anything is better than this place.

Round 2 at Bon a Pit, this time with the family on Saturday evening 4/2/2011. Hello Smoke House Burger with Cheddar Cheese. Yes it was delicious and juicy, I ordered it medium well. Drizzle tons more BBQ sauce over the fries and now we have a beautiful hot mess. The cream of Mushroom soup was a great starter, I highly suggest. The folks ordered the Bon a Pit's BBQ Trifecta, which was a 1/2 slab of baby back ribs, BBQ Brisket and 1/2 BBQ Chicken. I did sample the chicken and brisket. What stood out the most was the bbq chicken. The smoke taste was tender and leaving me wanting more. Of course I was full from my House Burger and could not continue on the path of the Trifecta. Overall my second visit was delightful, however the table of 4 behind us was dropping "F" bombs and did not care there was a table of kids next to us. They were so loud I actually remember their entire conversation. Not fun when I was treating my parents out to a nice dinner. I wish management that evening would have confronted them to lower their voices.

Great service + Great food=Great experience! Such a better BBQ place than Chuck's Southern Comfort(who is supposed to be well known for their BBQ foods, but yet they ran out last night! Tsk. Tsk!)

I had the misfortune of dinner here this week. I ordered the beef brisket. It certainly was not BBQ. It was dry, not juicy. It was merely dry, sliced food service roast beef with BBQ sauce ladeled upon it. Aweful. Save your money and find another place.

I've been here twice and I still can't decide how much I like this place yet. I'd say this is more of a 3.5 star rating for now, and I rounded up to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's a really nice place, and I like the ambiance of it. The first time I came here I sat in the patio area, which is great, but its right next to their party room, so if they have a party going on while your out there, you kinda feel like your in the viewing gallery... In my case it was a baby shower... The food itself is pretty decent but I need to try it another few times to really give a good review of it. People are tough on bbq places but all things considered, I think they hold their own. I've had the bbq beef brisket which was good, not dry and the sauce was good. Portion size was decent as well. I've also had a corn beef sandwich, which was ok not great though. The service is ok, sometimes the wait staff can be a little awkward though...

I have heard about this place from a friend from work. . . He told me the food was exceptionally good and that I would not regret coming here. I have to say he was right. My wife and I came here when we had some free time from work and children were away at the grandparents' house. I subscribed before on their official website to receive a coupon which was very clever. When we got there we had to wait a little but we were seated after a short wait. Our waitress was very nice, she helped us pick our food and answered any questions we had. We both had BBQ Specialty Platters and drinks. We were there for around 2 hours and it felt like we just arrived. We were very full and still had to take home food. It is a very nice restaurant and I recommend it for anyone who hasn't been here yet!

I come here far too often since my family lives nearby and I never leave disappointed. I am a huge fan of their specials and the bar and the service is always great. My favorite dishes are the ribs, steak, and all of their sides, especially the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. I've even sampled the bbq salmon and loved it. The place is always jam packed, so prepare for a wait.

I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn't live up to my expectations. My husband and I usually like to sit at the bar and have drinks and appetizers and, if the food and atmosphere click, an entree or another appetizer at least. Well, from the moment we walked in, we never felt welcome. There was no bartender, per se, although they have a beautiful bar area. A server made us our drinks and then we were left awkwardly alone at the bar. The manager walked by us with a huge salad and proceeded to sit down at an isolated table in the bar to eat, which I thought was tacky. When he was done, a bus boy sat down to eat with his platter. I guess maybe that's why not too many people sit at the bar. We had nachos, which were certainly plentiful and OK, but not outstanding. We were like an afterthought as we sat at the bar. Various waitstaff came and made their own drinks for their tables. We finally asked the woman who waited on us if they had an actual bartender. She told us they all fended for themselves until the bartender came in at 4:00. By this time, we both felt so much indifference on the part of the waitstaff that we decided to leave. We ordered an order of rib tips to go to give the food another chance. As we were leaving, the manager BEGRUDGINGLY thanked me and said good night. I think he really would have preferred to ignore us. Atmosphere is as important to us as the food at a restaurant and this place has areally strange vibe. We will not go back there again and it's unfortunate because something as simple as a query from the manager as to how we were enjoying ourselves might have ensured some continuing business from us, but I really think they don't get it. Oh well, there are lots of other places to go in the area. By the way, the rib tips were awful. I wouldn't even give them to my dogs...they went right into the garbage.

My client sent me to Bon a Pit for dinner my first night in town! The service was prompt and friendly. I decided to try the brisket, veggies, corn on the cob, and baked beans. The food was hot and tasted so good - just like home cooking. Great choice!

Good food, but service is inconsistent. First visit was fine. Second visit a month later, my girlfriend found a hair on her plate. When she informed the waitress, the waitress looked annoyed and took the plate back. She returned with a replacement entrée without an apology or any comment. There was no manager in sight. When she returned, still looking annoyed, she announced that my girlfriend could have a free dessert. After making her choice, I began to order a dessert (which I fully intended to pay for), but the waitress abruptly turned and walked away. Don't know why, but the attitude changed dramatically after the hair. Still weighing whether or not to return.

We dined in on a Sunday evening. We were seated right away when we arrived around 5:30, but it filled up quickly as our meal went on. The food itself is pretty comparable to other southern places. That said, I enjoyed my ribs, and the corn bread and cinnamon apples were just fine, though I don't see how anyone could screw them up. Otherwise, the atmosphere is nice, if a bit dark in the corner in which we were seated. I do like the look of the bar area. Also, we really got lucky with a fantastic server. He was personable and checked on us frequently enough without making us feel rushed.

The problem is that the service, food, prices, are not consistent. When its good its really good food. But its not always hot and fresh. The service is not always good. price changes and new menu happened a few times. They do have good bbq food

My parents took me here to celebrate my 32nd bday. It was a rainy, dreary Saturday afternoon and there weren't a whole lot of people there. Very charming little joint, has a very cordial feeling and the staff help to amplify that feeling. We utilized a YELP discount which offered a free appetizer yeah) which we chose some barbecue rib tips. They were absolutely dee-lish and for those that care, it was REAL BAR-B-QUE. Not those baked/broiled messes slathered with barbecue sauce that lesser restaurants will serve. Our meal came out nice, I had a steak cooked medium and a side of vegetables. Everything was very fresh and very good. This is def not my side of town but I am thinking I would def go back whenever I want some good, fresh barbecue and don't mind a little drive.

Such a great neighborhood spot! Fantastic place to meet friends for a nice evening. The patio is amazing ~ beautifully landscaped, very relaxing to just sit outside and enjoy the ambience. So many great food options ~ the beef brisket is very tender and has great flavor. The chicken parmesan is outstanding -- great taste and always tender. Lots of side dishes to choose from. Portions are large. If you're a fish eater, be sure to try the salmon (either dill or bbq glazed). Wait staff is always friendly and efficient. Nice place to visit at the cozy bar and have some cocktails and appetizers with your significant other or a small group of friends.

With so many other great BBQ places in the area, Bon A Pit currently ranks in my Top 10, but unfortunately not any higher than a Top 8. I had the open faced pulled pork sandwich with a baked potato, corn on the cob, sweet apples and corn bread. Points for the BBQ sauce, and the pork was good, but the baked potato was undercooked (yuck!), the sweet apples were a bit too sweet, the corn on the cob was probably frozen, and the corn bread was like something out of plastic from a vending machine. Their prices are a bit higher than their superior competitors which still remain better meals with a much better value. Ambiance was too dark for my liking, and they seated us by an open door on a cold, rainy night. Work on perfecting your side dishes and keep the place brighter, and you will have me back for another try.

I have been to Bon A Pit over a dozen times since they have opened. I believe they have been open for about 5 years. I first became aquanted with Bon A Pit because my aunt wanted to have my uncles 50th birthday party there. She set everything up with one of their managers ahead of time, I believe her was Vanessa. She was extremely polite and patient ( if you knew my aunt and all her questions you would have thought it was an interview). All in all my aunt liked all of their choices for the menu, our choice of private room, and the price for a private party was very reasonable. My family rented out the patio to make it private. The food was really good. I had the chicken ke-bob. You wouldn't know it by there name, but the menu is extremely diverse. They obviously specialize in their BBQ, but they also have a varity of seafood dishes, salads, burgers, Panninis, and wraps. I was skeptical about choosing something that was not something I believed they specialize in but was I glad that I did. The chicken was tender and moist and came with perfectly grilled onions, peppers, and mushrooms. My aunt had the brisket and she was happy as well. She said that it was tender and complemented the BBQ sauce itself. Since the first visit I have also tried their smoked raspberry salmon! The main reason behind giving Bon A Pit 5 stars is the fact that they took a risk with a diverse menu and found a way to make every dish very well. ( When most restaurants do that, they never seem to get anything but their specialty right). The atmosphere there is very diverse. It has three rooms ( a normal dining room with no tvs so you can talk to whom ever your with, a bar with multiple tvs, and a patio which also has tvs but is my favorite because it is enclosed with three walls so you have the outdoor feel and sunlight with no concern for the Chicago wind. Oh, it's also air conditioned.) All in all, it's deffinetly worth trying out if you haven't already. Oh and their drink specials are amazing

This was our first time at Bon a Pit. After reading the raves on Yelp, we went expecting fabulous food and a great time. It was Wednesday night. The restaurant was nearly deserted, only 7 or 8 tables were filled. The hostess was very pleasant, and seated our party at a large table near the window. The waitress was also pleasant and knowledgeable regarding the fare. The food was OK, but I certainly have had better! The waitress pushed the brisket, and I was happy to try it. Very tender on an open- faced greek toast. It comes with choice of two sides, I had the mac and cheese and cole slaw. The mac and cheese was not special and the cole slaw was fresh and flavorless. So all in all, it was just OK, I don't think I will be going back any time soon.

When I have a taste for BBQ, I head over to Bon-a-Pit. I love their Smokehouse Salad: Greens with pork loin or chicken, various bell pepper slices, red onions, granny apples, walnuts, cheddar cheese, cinnamon, and BBQ dressing. This is one way for me to get my BBQ fix without the bread. This is a clean, beautifully landscaped, patio style restaurant that is family friendly. Syed is one of the waiters that makes my dining a pleasure.

If you want GREAT BBQ, go to Chuck's in Burbank. If you want ok, BBQ you could go here. I saw no presence of a smokehouse, esp in the food. The brisket barely had a smoke ring on the meat. Nice outdoor patio. Service was great. Beware they let people SMOKE on the OUTSIDE PATIO! No one told us the people next to us would be lighting up! Def. Turn off.

Durring Christmas time my husband and I purchased 100$ giftcard here for the inlaws and they gave us a 25$ free and we kept it. I ordered a loaded nacho and it was delish! I ate the whole thing. Didn't try the ribs though. If you are a nacho lover you will be happy.

living in or close to chicago, it is beyond obvious that you can find much better bbq elsewhere. the city is filled with everything from authentic joints to modern gems, all serving delicious bbq. however, if you don't feel like traveling, you may considering bon-a-pit an option. please do not. there isn't a single appetizer worth noting. the mac-n-cheese is dry and crusty (and not in the good way). the food is ALRIGHT. fries are bland and ribs have little-to-no meat on them. the service, on the other hand, is a nightmare. each time i have dined there, the waiting staff has has little idea about the menu. they always seem completely frazzled and overwhelmed. this is forgiving, to a degree, but frustrating and can ruin a nice outing. the last (and final) time i was there, our waitress was clueless and missing a majority of the time. we were overly nice because we felt bad for her, but when she mixed up everyone's credit cards and came back giggling about it, that is when the problem started. eventually after talking to the manager about the bill problem, the owner walked over. he appeared slightly intoxicated and was rude from the start. he brushed off her mistake stating that the credit card balance would fix itself and then walked away only to begin telling the other tables about our situation. after calling him repulsive, we left and swore to never return. if i may suggest some better options in the area : the pit on harlem or hog wild on 149 and pulaksi - all delicious with a caring staff that make spending your money worthwhile.

Having lived in Texas and experienced the Great BBQ places in the city, this place just doesn't hold a candle... Nice place, just not sure that it knows what it want's to be?? Sign says BBQ but menu is packed with everything under the sun... Had Brisket sand, No 12 hour smoke ring here! not even a 2 hour!! Fries/slaw/pickle were very good and it was busy just not real authentic on the BBQ side but worth a try for sure..

Visited again on 02/10/2012. All of us ordered a variation of their "BBQ Perfecta", which is a "Choice of Two 1/2 Sizes of their BBQ entries". Service was very good. Food was good, but no "wow factor". Parking situation is not very good. I still think "The Patio" is the best place for BBQ.

Went with the Missus and the little guy for dinner. The building is very nice, and almost too nice to be a bar-b-que place. When I think bar-b-que I think shack, not a place that looks similar to a steakhouse. We immediately ordered drinks and the kids mac and cheese and a cup of chick pea soup for the wife. The mac and cheese was straight out of a box, and not even a Kraft box. Most definitely a generic boxed mac and cheese. Mac and cheese is a very traditional BBQ side and for a place that has the age-old slogan of "life's too short to eat bad BBQ" on their homepage, one would and should expect homemade mac and cheese. The chick pea soup was awful. No flavor at all. Some of the blame goes to the wife for ordering this. Its a BBQ place, you should know that the chick pea soup would be bad. Also, no self respecting BBQ place should serve chick pea soup. The wife and I ordered the BBQ platter for two as our entree. For $44.95 we got a 1/2 rack of St Louis style ribs, 1/2 a BBQ chicken, some chopped pork, some brisket, BBQ pork loin, rib tips, and BBQ sausage. The ribs were ok, however they were a bit over done. The meat came off the bone cleanly. Properly done ribs should require a bit of a pull to come off the bone. Flavor was good. The chicken was ok but we were pretty full by the time we got to it so we didn't eat much of it. Intense smokey flavor in the skin of the chicken and that was the only item on the platter that had a smokey flavor. No smoke to be found in the brisket, pork, or ribs. The chopped pork was good, the brisket was average. I would have said the brisket was good but there was no smoke ring in the meat and really no noticeable smokey flavor. The BBQ pork loin was surprisingly good, but a bit dry. Not a hit with the Missus. The rib tips were pretty good, but could have been slow cooked a bit longer to help the meat come off the cartilage. I loved the BBQ sausage and would have liked it even more if there was more smoke. The platter also came with four sides in addition to two small pieces of corn on the cob and two corn bread muffins. We ordered coleslaw, baked beans, french fries, and cinnamon apples. The coleslaw was awful. The baked beans were pedestrian. They put chopped pork in with their baked beans. I think that using brisket in the beans gives a better flavor. The fries were good, but not home made and the cinnamon apples were good also. The corn on the cob was pretty bad but it is not in season so that's forgivable. The corn bread muffins were very dry. Service was good. I would appreciate a variety of BBQ sauces on the table. We didn't get any extra sauce and the chopped pork needed a bit more. Tasted like all the items were sauced with the same sauce. A couple of different sauces that pair better with the food items would help. Damage wasn't bad. Around $60 or so before tip for the dinner, the little guy's meal, and two beers. For being a BBQ restaurant this place has way too much on the menu. They offer sandwiches, steaks, burgers, salads, and fish in addition to BBQ. When a restaurant tries to do too much they often fail. This place needs to decide if it wants to be a BBQ restaurant or a family dining restaurant. Its one or the other, it can't be both.

We had a great experience here, we went to celebrate a 60th birthday, the service was good. nice atmosphere ( a little noisy), The Birthday boy had the ribs ( very pleased), two people had pulled pork ( very good), two people had burgers ( very good), 1 person had beef brisket ( very good), 1 person had a chop steak (satisfactory), they sang happy birthday like they really cared and brought out a large brownie like cake with vanilla ice cream on the house for the b-day boy. 1 Person had a beer served in a beautiful glass. Prices are fair, and portions are also. The mac-n-cheese was really good, you can really taste the smoke in the meat , fries, slaw, pickle were all just like anywhere but good. This was my1st time there, seems like they are firing on all cylinders right now. Oh, and I was under the weather, the waiter was kind enough to load me up with honey and lemon for my hot tea.

The food and service was pretty good. We sat in the indoor patio which is connected to the outdoor patio. Very disappointed that they didn't tell us they allow smoking on the patio. Total turn-off!! Might order carry out in the future but will never sit down to eat again because of their smoking policy!!

One of the best barbecue sauces ever. Although one reviewer disagrees, I thought the macaroni and cheese was really good and I believe it really was homemade - totally not Kraft at all. I thought it was a nice touch to add the pulled bbq meat to the baked beans. I love sides so i got the potato salad too which was yummy - even though I'm not a big fan of crunchy potato salad it was still delicious. No problems with service or wait time on being seated, ordering, or getting food. I'd definitely go here again.

My wife can't believe how often I want to go to bon a pit, I love their bbq ribs, they're great. I always get the half slab of baby back ribs with coleslaw and the chips. My wife really likes their salmon. And on the way out, their after dinner mints are great. I really like the place as well, seems like they spent a fortune on it (not really sure why they did that). Sitting outside is nice. Though a couple times ago they had the lamest music playing that I've ever heard at a restaurant (think random pop songs). The food always comes out quickly as well (surprisingly quick). It's also a really cheap meal IMO. Half slab of baby back ribs, 2 sides, and a corn muffin for something like $14. Negatives: * their sides are a bit lacking (I like the chips and the coleslaw though) * I don't like their fries * The corn muffin's kind of awesome and kind of weird, in that it really tastes like a muffin (the sweet kind) * Their menu should be cut down, too much random stuff * We moved recently so I can't go anymore

South siders looking for a FABULOUS Grill and Smoke House look no further! We were weekly Pit cusomters (Robert's Road) and have been disgusted by the reheated chicken and ribs so someone told us to try BON A PIT! At last we've found a place that has the very best of all the barbeque joints rolled into one! It's beautiful decor and very personable staff is just a bonus because the food is DELICIOUS! There is nothing you could possibly want that this place does not deliver! The barbeque sauce is always the "MAKE OR BREAK" difference in a good barbeque place and this sauce does not leave you dissapointed. It's slightly sweet and tangy! The ribs fall off the bone, the chicken is perfectly moist and tender and there are plenty of sides to choose from. Great selection of salads and appetizers. If you're looking for some good barbeque on the south side BESIDES THE PIT (Roberts Road) give this place a try!
